Fat Pony Backpackers & Riding Centre

Fat Pony Backpackers & Riding Centre is a family-run, child and biker-friendly farm house hostel located in the Western Cape Winelands, approximately 30 minutes away from Cape Town City Centre. The establishment is owned and operated by Alan and Lorna, who warmly welcome guests to their facility.

The hostel offers comfortable and airy dormitories, including dorms and mini dorms, which are suitable for both large and small groups. The mini dorms are equipped with heating for cool winter months and have private entrances. All bed linens are provided to guests. Additionally, the hostel provides a fully equipped farmhouse kitchen with a log fire, as well as an outdoor braai area. Guests can relax on comfortable sofas in a large games room that features a pool table, library, and sun deck overlooking a braai garden with a pool.

Free Wi-Fi is available to guests, covering most of the farm. Towels and a laundry room with washer and dryer are available for hire for a small fee. The hostel also offers bike rentals, allowing guests to explore and wine taste their way through the scenic Cape Winelands. Guests can also participate in riding lessons, pony trails, or workshops, with special discounts available for hostel guests.

Nearby attractions and activities include Butterfly World, Dirtopia (an off-road mountain biking and hiking centre), golfing, quad biking, and paintball. The hostel offers airport shuttles and welcomes overland vehicles. Smoking is not permitted in the rooms.
