Lichtenburg is a farming town situated among the towns of Coligny and Mafikeng on the R503, approximately 200 km west of the major metropolis of Johannesburg. The town was established in 1873, but it gained prominence during the diamond rush of the 1920s, which brought thousands of prospectors to the area. The world's biggest red diamond, known as the "pigeon blood red" diamond, was discovered in Lichtenburg in 1927. This exceptionally rare stone is said to be one of fewer than 20 naturally occurring red diamonds in existence today, lending further significance to the town's history as a diamond mining hub.
The Budget Rooms at the Indigo Moon Guesthouse are smaller than the Standard Rooms but offer amenities such as a double bed, a fan (no air conditioning), a bar fridge, coffee/tea facilities, DStv, and an en-suite bathroom with a shower.
