Local Experiences

Whale watching: During peak season (June-November), over 150 Southern Right whales can be counted in Walker Bay. The guest house is perfectly positioned for land-based whale watching, with the mammals often coming within 5 meters of the cliffs.

Local activities: The staff can arrange various experiences including shark cage diving in nearby Gansbaai, sea kayaking with dolphins, wine tastings at surrounding estates, paragliding, quad biking, horse riding on the beach, and guided hikes in the Fernkloof Nature Reserve.

Insider Tips

For dining, ask the staff for restaurant recommendations rather than trying to decide yourself - they know which places serve the freshest line fish (caught that day when weather permits). Most local restaurants allow you to bring your own wine for a corkage fee.

The best whale watching happens when the weather is slightly rougher - the choppy conditions seem to invigorate the whales into more active behavior.

Visit early morning or late afternoon for the best chance to see rock hyraxes (dassies) along the cliff path.
