Thorn Tree Bush Camp - Accommodation

The Thorn Tree Bush Camp is a four-star graded accommodation establishment (TGCSA) situated inside the Dinokeng Game Reserve in Hammanskraal, Gauteng. It caters to nature enthusiasts, offering a tranquil setting where one can experience the sights and sounds of the wild, including lion roars, jackal barks, bush baby cries, owl screeches, and insect songs, often heard at night.

The camp features 12 tented bush camps accommodating between 2 to 8 guests. Additionally, there are 6 bush campsites at the main camp and 2 off-grid campsites for self-sufficient campers in an unfenced area of the park. As a Big Five Game Reserve, loud noise and music are prohibited, and terms and conditions apply.

For those seeking a more relaxed stay, the Fever Tree Tent accommodates 2 adults and 1 child, allowing guests to be closer to the sounds of nature. The Scented Pod tented camp, on the other hand, caters to larger groups of up to 8 people, ideal for friends and families. It is also possible to book the entire camp for exclusive use.

Guests can escape the city's hustle and bustle, enjoy a braai under the stars while surrounded by the sounds of the wild, or partake in game drives to view the Big Five. The camp offers breathtaking sunrises and sunsets, painting the skies with brilliant colors.

A minimum stay of 2 nights is required, with longer stays of 3 or 4 nights mandatory during long weekends. Conservation fees, permits, and game drives are not included in the accommodation quotes and must be paid separately. During their stay, guests are required to pay conservation fees to the Dinokeng Game Reserve and obtain self-drive permits if they wish to drive within the reserve.

The camp also offers additional activities such as game drives (no children under 3 allowed on game drive vehicles), garden weddings, receptions in the lapa or garden (accommodating up to 36 people), game drives in the nearby Mangwa Valley (about 8 km away), bush walks, night drives, sundowners, and bush breakfasts. The Elephant Root Luxury Tent is perfect for romantic getaways, while the Roodeplaat area (about 47 km away) offers a swimming pool and play area for children.
