The Whale Lookout is one of Hermanus' prime spots for land-based whale watching, especially during the peak season from September to November. It's perfectly positioned along the coastline, offering spectacular views without needing to board a boat.

Best Times to Visit

For lekker whale watching, time your visit between September and November when the Southern Right whales are most active with their calves. The lookout point allows visitors to observe these magnificent creatures breaching, spy-hopping and tail-slapping in their natural habitat. Outside whale season (June to November), the panoramic coastal views still make it worthwhile.

Sunrise visits offer both spectacular lighting for coastline photography and a chance to spot whales in the golden morning light. Beyond whales, keep your eyes peeled for dolphins, seals, diverse bird life, and the resident dassies (rock hyrax) that frequent the area.
