Aandster

Aandster is a bright and comfortable old Karoo house that is stylishly furnished and well-equipped for self-catering. The house was originally a sculpture studio, and some of Clive's original sculpture works remain in the zen-inspired, walled garden. The house is decorated with Braam van Wyk's original artworks, which lend themselves to the Karoo landscapes.

Located in the heart of Nieu Bethesda, Aandster comprises three bedrooms, one of which is in the garden. There is a shared bathroom, a spacious open-plan lounge, dining, and kitchen area, as well as a private garden with a braai and a swing for children.

Depending on the season, guests can light a fire in the wood-burner in the lounge or sunbathe in the walled garden. Crisp cotton linen keeps guests cool in summer, while woolen duvets and mohair blankets provide warmth in winter. Pets are welcome by prior arrangement.

Life in Nieu Bethesda moves at a leisurely pace, much like it did 130 years ago when the village was founded. Stone water furrows still line the wide, dusty streets, and the night skies are unpolluted by streetlights, with fresh, clean air.

Nieu Bethesda has a working network of furrows, with water supplied daily from a spring on the plateau above the village. Residents channel water into their gardens using smaller gated funnels. Visitors can hike along the furrows up to the spring or prearrange a hike up Kompasberg or through the Canyon on one of the surrounding farms. The area around Nieu-Bethesda is ideal for mountain bikers of any skill level, with two mountain bike trails in the area.

There is a swing set in the enclosed garden for children. The village offers many family-friendly activities and restaurants. Aandster is a two-bedroom (one twin and one double) self-catering house with four extra bunk beds (two in the common room, two in the garden room), a bathroom (shower, bath, and toilet), and an open-plan kitchen, dining, and sitting area. There is also a private garden with braai facilities.
