Adam se Uitspanning is a place where visitors can experience old-fashioned style by staying in one of nine lovingly restored ox wagons. These authentic ox wagons, built in the early 20th century, have been transformed into unique self-catering accommodations that offer an unforgettable experience. The Uitspanning is situated in an Eco park in the Upper-Karoo region, where visitors can expect to see springboks, smaller antelopes, small predators, mammals, a variety of birds, and reptiles. Rock engravings from prehistoric nomads, British soldiers, and early farmers can be found in the vicinity.

The vegetation is typical of the semi-desert plants adapted to the harsh climate of the Upper Karoo. The wagons and their inhabitants are protected by a veranda and a stoep, which extends the living area. A fire pit for braaiing and an anthill oven provide facilities for a memorable night under the bright stars and the quiet Karoo veld. Each wagon has its own bathroom located right next to it, equipped with a shower, hot water, and a flush toilet. The wagons have distinct characters, derived from the painting on their ladders and their individual histories. Three of the wagons have private bathrooms, while six of them share a bathroom with their neighboring wagon.

Visitors can experience what it was like to travel with a family in an ox wagon through the Karoo veld a century ago, taking breaks during the heat of the day for the oxen to drink and rest, making coffee over an open fire, hunting for meat, milking cows, and performing daily household tasks by lamplight. Mornings would begin at daybreak with the oxen being spanned in again to continue the trek. There was time for families to eat together, read the Bible and sing Psalms, engage in handcrafts, tell stories, and make music.

For the convenience of guests, limited solar power is provided for lighting in the bathrooms and on the stoeps, as well as a gas cooker for morning coffee. Limited solar power is also available to charge cell phones, but air conditioners, fans, and hair dryers are not available. The experience aims to balance comfort with a unique historical setting. Visitors who can endure the scorching summer sun, icy winters, dusty winds, flies, and mosquitoes (like the explorers, transport drivers, trekboers, hunters, and Voortrekkers of the past) will be rewarded with golden sunrises and sunsets, vistas of rugged kopjes and ridges, ironstone, and the fragrant Karoo bossies, as well as peace and quiet.
