AfriCamps at White Elephant Safaris offers a premium glamping experience in the historic Pongola Game Reserve, KwaZulu-Natal, situated at the foot of the Lebombo Mountains. The location holds the distinction of being the world's second-oldest private reserve and Africa's oldest, dating back to 1894.
The property features twelve luxurious self-catering glamping tents positioned along the shores of the 15,000-hectare Lake Jozini. Each 55m² tent is expertly crafted to accommodate up to five guests, featuring two bedrooms with extra-length queen-size beds, plus a single bunk bed in one room. The units are fully equipped with modern amenities including an en-suite bathroom, air conditioning, indoor fireplace, and a fully-functional kitchen. A spacious wooden deck provides outdoor living space with braai facilities and stunning views of the surrounding landscape.
The reserve is home to diverse wildlife including buffalo, elephant, rhino, leopard, hyena, giraffe, wildebeest, zebra, warthog, twelve antelope species, and over 350 bird species. Lake Jozini adds another dimension to the safari experience with its population of hippos, crocodiles, and tigerfish. Activities available include land and water-based safaris, guided bush walks, tiger fishing, and educational conservation experiences focused on rhino and elephant research.
Each tent features its own private wood-fired hot tub, perfect for relaxation while taking in the African sunset. The camp provides various amenities including a swimming pool, on-site shop, and Wi-Fi access in common areas. Guests can order breakfast and braai baskets for delivery to their tents, though all cooking is self-catered.
The property is managed by dedicated conservation-minded owners who prioritize environmental preservation, community support, and educational initiatives, ensuring an authentic and responsible African safari experience.
