Agterplaas B&B is situated at the foot of the historical Melville Koppies. The establishment offers a view, tranquillity, and bird life that can make visitors forget they are in South Africa's busiest city. However, the attractions of the Melville boutiques, bookshops, coffee bars, and nightclubs are just a short distance away. It is approximately 3 kilometres from the University of Johannesburg and 7 kilometres from the University of the Witwatersrand.

Agterplaas B&B offers 13 en-suite rooms that can be configured as singles, doubles, or twins (two beds). Additionally, there is a spacious cottage with self-catering facilities, typically allocated to guests staying for longer periods. The cottage and two other units are located across the street from the main building on the premises of the proprietor, Jannie. The cottage has a delightful private garden. All units are equipped with fans, heaters, TVs, bar fridges, and coffee/tea facilities with complimentary juices and cold drinks.

Lock-up garages are available at no extra cost, and the establishment is a Wi-Fi Hotspot. ADSL access can be obtained by credit card on guests' laptops. A variety of breakfasts is served in the large dining room with authentic Oregon Pine flooring and pressed steel ceilings. The B&B also offers limited informal conference facilities.
