Allendale

Allendale is a working livestock farm located in the district of Graaff-Reinet, in the Eastern Cape province. It offers self-catering, dinner, bed and breakfast accommodation in a family unit, providing an opportunity for visitors from urban areas to experience the tranquility of the Karoo region at a reasonable cost. The accommodation features a private entrance and shaded parking for guests.

The unit consists of a spacious double room, an open-plan lounge area with a kitchen, and an en-suite bathroom with a shower, basin, and toilet. The lounge area can accommodate two additional guests, whether children or adults. There is also a veranda area suitable for relaxation or enjoying a braai while watching the sunset.

Guests at Allendale can explore the 10,000-hectare farm by taking short walks, hiking in the mountains, or mountain biking on Jeep tracks. The homestead and garden area provide ample space for children to run around and enjoy the playground and jungle gym. For the adventurous, there is an option to swim in the cement dam used for irrigating the garden.

Dinner can be ordered and served on a private patio over a glass of wine, allowing guests to enjoy the sunset. Evenings can be spent admiring the endless stars from the cottage veranda or further afield on the farm. Additional activities include feeding hand-raised lambs, playing in the river bed or poplar forest, hiking or walking around the farm, and off-road biking in the district.
