Amakhala Game Reserve, Eastern Cape

Amakhala - The Safari Lodge is a luxury accommodation situated within the Amakhala Game Reserve in the Eastern Cape wilderness of South Africa. The lodge is located in a valley of indigenous bush at the northern boundary of the 6000-hectare reserve, strategically located between Shamwari Game Reserve and Addo Elephant National Park, offering opportunities for excellent wildlife viewing.

The Safari Lodge provides a three-day package that includes activities within the Amakhala Game Reserve, a game drive into Addo Elephant National Park, and a day trip to Shamwari Game Reserve. The design of the lodge was influenced by the landscape and elements of African tribal design, with the aim of creating a holistic safari experience by owners and artists Mike and Justine Weeks.

The intimate thatched lodge features unique air-conditioned safari huts that offer the comforts of a four-star luxury lodge while providing an undisturbed retreat where guests can reconnect with nature. The Safari Lodge accommodates up to 12 people, with four original safari huts and two new luxury suites complete with private plunge pools and separate lounge areas. The safari huts and central lounge open up to views of a small waterhole where monkeys, antelope, and zebras can be observed.

Amenities at the lodge include luxurious double baths, outdoor showers, and large beds draped with mosquito nets. The lodge also features a fireside area where guests can gather in the evenings to share stories of the day's adventures while enjoying award-winning South African wines and local cuisine prepared by the resident chef, under a magnificent canopy of stars.
