Anford Country House
Guest HouseAnford Country House is a historic property located in Mpumalanga, South Africa, positioned strategically between Johannesburg and Nelspruit, near the Kruger National Park. Originally constructed in 1872, this four-star establishment sits just off the N4 highway, making it the first guesthouse encountered along this route and easily accessible within a two-hour drive from Gauteng.
Situated on the Anford Estate between Belfast and Machadodorp, the property is nestled within a natural Pine forest on the escarpment at the foot of the Steenkamps mountains. The area features distinctive sandstone formations and water-carved valleys that host rare fauna and flora species.
The recently refurbished country house offers various accommodation options, with a total capacity for 20 guests. The main house features two large double suite rooms and five standard double and twin rooms, all equipped with en-suite bathrooms featuring classic claw baths and glass showers. Each room comes furnished with modern amenities including electric blankets, coffee and tea facilities, refrigerators, and microwave ovens.
A separate forest cottage, located 200 meters from the main house, provides additional privacy with three double bedrooms and two bathrooms. This family unit includes a cozy fireplace and lounge area, ideal for family gatherings. The establishment functions as both a country house and restaurant, serving travelers along the N4 highway and those seeking a weekend retreat.
