Augrabies Falls National Park Sanparks

The Augrabies Falls National Park, known as "Aukoerebis" or "place of Great Noise" by the Khoi people, is a park located in South Africa. The park encompasses 55,383 hectares on both the northern and southern sides of the Orange River. The powerful flow of water is unleashed from rocky surroundings characterized by the 18km abyss of the Orange River Gorge.

The park provides sanctuary to a diverse range of species, from the smallest succulents, birds, and reptiles, to larger animals such as springbok, gemsbok, and giraffe. Quiver trees stand as silent sentinels in the strangely unique environment, where only those able to adapt ultimately survive.

Activities available in the park include viewing the waterfalls from various viewpoints, game viewing using one's own vehicle, and night drives that can be booked at the park. The park has certain regulations in place, such as not allowing pets, bicycles, roller blades, or skateboards. Visitors may enter the park with motorcycles and are allowed to stay in the camping site. It is advisable to bring necessary items such as a hat, walking shoes, sunblock, camera, binoculars, and wildlife reference books.

Visitors should note that outdoor lighting in camps is limited, and a torch or headlamp is required for walking outside at night. Hikers on day and overnight trails must always carry sufficient water, and visitors should be prepared for sudden weather changes by bringing appropriate clothing for both summer and winter conditions.

Rates for accommodation at the park are subject to the number of adults and children staying, and quotes will include the 1% Community Levy but exclude daily conservation fees, which are to be paid directly at the camp upon arrival. Visitors must supply their own camping equipment, tents, or caravans, as only power points are available. Additional vehicles will be charged a fee per night.
