Aves Lodge

Aves Lodge is situated 15 kilometers outside the town of Cullinan, in the De Tweedespruit conservancy, which is located 30 kilometers east of Pretoria and approximately 90 kilometers north of OR Tambo International Airport. The lodge is situated on a 25-hectare property and is built as a wooden cottage, offering ample space for both long holidays and short getaways.

The name "Aves" is derived from the scientific term for birds, reflecting the tranquil and natural setting of the lodge, where guests can enjoy the bush in privacy. The lodge welcomes dogs, kids, friends, and family. The spacious cottage can accommodate up to eight people, featuring four bedrooms (two with double beds and two with two single beds), two bathrooms (one with a shower and toilet, and the other with a bath and toilet), and an open-plan kitchen.

The living space includes a fireplace, gas stove, and DStv. The fully equipped kitchen caters to all self-catering needs. Outdoor amenities include a wood braai, boma, and a private plunge pool (as of June 2010). Guests can relax and enjoy the stunning view from the spacious wooden deck, which is furnished with a gas heater, gas braai, hammock, and a large outdoor dining table.

For adventurous guests, a 4x4 quad bike is available for use on the property only, as Aves Lodge is situated within a conservancy. However, guests are advised to use the quad bike at their own risk and respect the conservancy rules. Spa treatments can be arranged for relaxation and stress relief, but must be pre-booked. The surrounding area offers various activities, such as birding, ballooning, mine tours, walking with lions, horseback safaris, self-drive safaris, and microlight flying. The nearby town of Cullinan features nice restaurants and shops to explore.
