Barefoot Addo Elephant Lodge is an award-winning luxury safari camp located on the boundary of the Addo Elephant National Park in the Greater Addo region, Eastern Cape, South Africa. Situated approximately 118 km from Chief Dawid Stuurman International Airport in Gqeberha, the lodge offers an intimate and exclusive experience within its fully fenced game reserve.
The accommodation consists of 10 spacious luxury eco-tented suites, thoughtfully positioned either among the Yellowwood forest or on the hillside, offering spectacular views. Each suite is constructed from timber and canvas, featuring en-suite bathrooms, lounge areas, and elevated wooden decks with outdoor spa baths. The units are environmentally conscious and blend seamlessly with the surrounding bushveld. Standard amenities include safes, hairdryers, ceiling fans, fireplaces, and tea- and coffee-making facilities. While televisions are not provided, Wi-Fi access is available.
A separate luxury family villa is available away from the main lodge, complete with a private chef and dedicated butler/housekeeper. The villa accommodates up to six guests with a minimum two-night stay requirement.
The lodge's dining area overlooks a popular elephant watering hole, and facilities include a well-stocked bar, swimming pool, and curio shop. Activities available include game drives, guided walks, elephant encounters, and bird watching opportunities. Guests can observe diverse wildlife including giraffes, zebras, and wildebeest, while nature enthusiasts can appreciate the area's rich bird species.
The property was inspired by German actor and filmmaker Til Schweiger, who created the lodge with a focus on natural elements and uncomplicated luxury. The design features soft colors, white linen, natural wood, and woven elements that contribute to its relaxed, nature-loving aesthetic.
