Bassfeather Country Lodge

Bassfeather Country Lodge is located near the north-eastern Free State maize-farming town of Reitz, which is renowned for its beautiful gardens and sandstone architecture. The lodge is ideally situated for corporate team-building weekends or refreshing getaways from the city life, being just two hours' drive from Johannesburg.

Bassfeather Country Lodge caters to various tastes and budgets with its scenic, unspoilt, and utterly peaceful surroundings. Guests can relax in one of the newly refurbished and comfortably appointed four- or six-bedroom chalets, each equipped with an en-suite bathroom, a TV, stove, fridge, and microwave. Alternatively, the lodge offers a campsite with excellent ablution and recreation facilities, including a community centre and a big-screen TV with DStv.

One of the most impressive features of Bassfeather Country Lodge is its beautiful, tranquil embankment, which is large enough for power-boating and water-skiing. Guests are welcome to bring their boats and make the most of this prime facility. The lodge also has generously stocked bass dams, where guests can try their hand at fishing. Visitors can enjoy a long stroll beside the dam, tackle a hike, or take a walk up the beautiful koppie with its superb views over the peaceful, unspoilt terrain. Bird watching and spotting blesbok, zebra, and black wildebeest on the farm are additional activities available.

A challenging golf course is located just 5 km from the lodge, and the cultural hub of Clarens, home to resident artists and galleries, is a leisurely 45-minute drive away. The breathtaking Golden Gate National Park is also just an hour's drive, situated in the foothills of the majestic Maluti Mountains. Bassfeather Country Lodge has a 400-square-meter rustic round thatch room perfect for weddings and birthdays, catering for up to 250 seated guests. Additionally, the lodge offers 21 shaded campsites with braai facilities and electrical outlets at most stands. The ablution blocks are cleaned on a daily basis.
