Bateleur Nature Reserve

Bateleur Nature Reserve is a 3,000-hectare nature reserve located in the Waterberg region. The reserve features deep gorges and clear rock pools, offering visitors an opportunity to immerse themselves in the beauty of nature. Accommodation options include self-catering secluded farmhouses, log cabins, and bush camps.

Once visitors arrive at the reserve and check in at the reception, they are encouraged to restrict driving to a minimum and explore the reserve primarily on foot. The reserve offers various activities such as hiking, game viewing, bird-watching in the Kloof Bird Hide, mountain biking, swimming, and catch-and-release fishing. Visitors have the freedom to explore the gorges, rocky krantzes, and clear bilharzia-free rock pools, allowing for an intimate experience with the Waterberg's unique ecosystem.

The area is classified as malaria-free, with warm to hot summer days, low humidity, and thunderstorms, while winter days are mild and sunny with chilly nights. The accommodation, primarily comprising old farmhouses with antique furniture, is comfortable and clean but not luxurious.

Bateleur Nature Reserve is known for its SAHTOA-accredited Stamvrug Hiking Trails, consisting of nine different circular and day trails laid out among the Waterberg Kloofs and Escarpments. The reserve is a bird-watchers' and wildlife paradise, with abundant flora and fauna.
