Battlefields Country Lodge

Battlefields Country Lodge is located in Dundee, situated in the heart of the battlefields region of KwaZulu Natal. It provides opportunities to explore various historical battle sites involving the Boers, British, and Zulu forces, such as Isandlwana, Rorke's Drift, Blood River, Ncome, and Talana museums.

The lodge is located in lush green valleys, overlooking rolling hills, dams, and the famous Talana hill, which was the site of the first battle between the Boers and the British soldiers. It features 50 accommodation units, ranging from unique silo-styled units to luxury self-catering suites, set amidst beautiful gardens with a swimming pool, dams, mountains, horses, game, and stunning birdlife.

Battlefields Country Lodge was established in 1998 by the Roos family, who continue to run the establishment. The original cottage, once used as a farm workshop, was renovated into Rosie's Cottage, featuring six en-suite rooms named after Rosie Rogers, who lived there for many years. Additionally, two old grain silos adjacent to the former milking shed were converted into four en-suite rooms with a stairway connecting the top two rooms.

The lodge features a gazebo, which serves as a chapel for wedding ceremonies, constructed from the iron roof of the former milking shed. To meet the demand for unique accommodation, ten larger silos were built, inspired by the original silos, and have become a popular attraction for international guests. Visitors can enjoy a relaxing sundowner at the fully licensed "Lapa Ukhamba" watering hole, a round thatched bar with a cozy fireplace during winter.

Battlefields Country Lodge offers an excellent three-course country-style buffet served in the 70-seater Warrior's Arms dining room, allowing guests to experience traditional South African dishes such as Braaivleis and Potjie. The superior rooms are luxury units with king-size or twin beds, air conditioning, DStv, comfortable couches, safes, dressing tables, clothing cabinets, coffee stations, showers, and fully-fitted kitchens with beautiful game views.
