Berg Cottage

Berg Cottage is a charming sandstone dwelling located in the village of Clarens, set in the beautiful mountainous area of the Free State. It nestles against the mountain and Nature Reserve. The cottage was built in 1929 from blocks hewn from the mountain by a "bywoner" in order to qualify for the hand of the farmer's daughter. It retains the character and simplicity of that era while incorporating modern comforts.

The cottage features four bedrooms that share two bathrooms and toilets, accommodating up to eight guests. It is perfect for families and visitors who enjoy the countryside. The property is large, allowing guests to climb halfway up the mountain and enjoy the sunset over Clarens while having evening drinks. There is also a cozy braai area close to the kitchen.

Berg Cottage serves as a great base to explore Lesotho, with Katse dam being only four hours away from Clarens. It offers a nostalgic experience, reminiscent of a great-grandmother's cottage from days past, with its typical Free State sandstone bricks and a large garden overlooking the entire town of Clarens.
