Blouhuis Farm Self Catering Cottage - Ladismith - Western Cape

Blouhuis Farm Self Catering Cottage is located approximately 18 kilometers off the R62 on the Riversdale/Ladismith road (R323), around 30 kilometers from Ladismith (Western Cape) and 50 kilometers from Riversdale. The cottage is visible from the R323 as it is situated 300 meters off the road. It offers a fully equipped self-catering cottage overlooking the farm's lucerne fields.

The cottage, which is the original 160-year-old farmhouse, has been modernized and is typical of Karoo homes from that era, with an attic space on top that keeps the cottage cool. It features a comfortable queen-size bed in the bedroom and a single bed in the living area, with an option to provide an additional bed upon request (at an extra charge for third and fourth person). Quality linens and towels are provided. Tea, coffee, and milk are supplied upon arrival, and braai facilities are available. Braai packs can be arranged if notified in advance.

Blouhuis farm is a working farm with lucerne fields, quality Red Angus cattle, and Dorper sheep. The farm is ideal for hikers, bird watchers (with 70 identified species), and those interested in the flora and fauna of the Klein Karoo. It covers an area of 360 hectares for visitors to enjoy, with the Brand River running through the farm, where swimming is permitted. The farm also has an interesting cacti and succulent garden, with some cacti being approximately 65 years old. The fruits grown on the farm, when in season, include pears, apricots, grapes, figs (3 varieties), pomegranates, and prickly pears.

Visitors can enjoy the perfectly wonderful starry Karoo evenings, experience the Klein Karoo at its best, and get away from it all in the peace and quiet of the farm. Easily accessible from the farm for day trips are Stillbaai, Riversdale, Calitzdorp, Oudtshoorn, Ladismith, Barrydale, and Seweweekspoort.
