Buffalo Hills Private Game Reserve is a secluded retreat located in the Drakensberg highlands near Sterkfontein Dam in the Eastern Free State, South Africa. Positioned approximately three hours from Durban, Johannesburg, and Bloemfontein, the reserve sits at an elevation of 1860m within the Drakensberg World Heritage Area, offering spectacular panoramic views and unique biodiversity.
The reserve features three distinct self-catering accommodation options. The Mountain Lodge comprises five chalets with en-suite bathrooms, connected to a central kitchen and lounge area with a fireplace, accommodating up to 15 guests. The Beauchef Farm House offers five bedrooms, four bathrooms, a fully equipped kitchen, TV lounge with fireplace, and an outdoor braai area, hosting up to 13 guests. The Fishing Cottage, overlooking a 35-hectare dam, includes three bedrooms and three bathrooms, with kitchen, dining room, and braai facilities, accommodating up to 8 guests.
Visitors can enjoy various activities including game viewing, bird watching, wildlife photography, fishing, mountain hiking, rock art viewing, mountain biking, and scenic self-drives. The reserve is home to diverse wildlife, including African Buffalo, Sable, Roan, Eland, Reedbuck, Zebra, Lechwe, Waterbuck, and the Secret Six.
