Buffalo Ridge Safari Lodge stands as a unique establishment in the Madikwe Game Reserve, distinguished by its ownership by the local Balete community from the village of Lekgophung. The Balete people, part of the Botswana tribe, have deep historical roots in the North West region and maintain their own cultural identity, including their buffalo totem and Setswana language.
The lodge, operated by The Nature Workshop for over 15 years, represents a successful community development initiative facilitated by North-West Parks. It offers 16 beds across eight luxurious thatched chalets, each featuring private viewing decks and natural decor that complements the surrounding bushveld. The accommodation includes sliding doors and shower facilities that enhance the connection with nature.
Strategically positioned on the Tweedepoort Ridge, the lodge provides breathtaking views of the northern plains and Inselbergs. The main structure, designed by renowned small lodge architect Nick Plewman, is built across two tiers and connected to the chalets by a wooden bridge spanning a ravine adorned with rock figs. Facilities include a reception area, dining room, lounge, multiple viewing decks, and a swimming pool.
The lodge offers various activities including game drives, walking safaris, tracking, stargazing, bush dining, and bird watching. It maintains a family-friendly policy, welcoming children of all ages with special provisions for young guests, including babysitting services and customized game drives for children.
Since its inauguration in November 2004, Buffalo Ridge Safari Lodge has consistently delivered a premium safari experience while maintaining its commitment to community development and sustainable tourism.
