Avg per night for 2 guests

Bulungula Lodge is an eco-friendly, Fair Trade certified accommodation located in the Transkei region of South Africa's Wild Coast. It is a multi-night destination for sustainability-minded South African and overseas visitors, catering to budget travelers, backpackers, and cultural wanderers. The Lodge is 100% owned and managed by the vibrant Nqileni village, a traditional Xhosa community situated between the Bulungula and Xhora river mouths.

The Xhosa community is an integral part of daily life at the Lodge, and guests are invited to become part of the village community during their stay. The Lodge is a carbon-neutral accommodation powered by solar energy, featuring hot-water showers, a borehole water supply, and colorful compost toilets. Accommodation options include 10 traditionally built Xhosa rondavel huts with sea and forest views, as well as cabins under the trees, all offering the sound of the Indian Ocean's surf.

The Lodge is located in a remote area of the Wild Coast, with destinations like Coffee Bay and Lubanzi accessible via hiking along the beach. Various community-owned businesses offer unique experiences, although they may not always have the level of professionalism found in larger cities. Regardless of the chosen accommodation, guests will fall asleep and wake up to the beautiful sound of the waves. Shared ablution facilities are available, but the Lodge cannot accommodate campervans and camper trailers. Guests are advised to bring their own tents.
