Burgherspost Wine Estate

Burgherspost Wine Estate is located in the Darling Wine Route, situated at the base of the picturesque Dassenberg Granite Hill. It offers a private wine cellar that showcases their acclaimed Shiraz variety. The estate features two self-catering cottages positioned at the foot of a granite koppie covered in renosterveld vegetation. Each stylishly designed, air-conditioned cottage includes a king-size bed, an en-suite bathroom, and a fully-equipped kitchen. The living area opens onto a patio that offers stunning views of dams, vineyards, and mountains.

Burgherspost Wine Estate features a private game reserve that is a renowned botanical hotspot, particularly during the flower season from mid-August to late September, with over twenty rare and endangered species identified on the premises. The neighboring Pella Research Reserve, managed by Cape Nature, is known for harboring the highest number of endangered species in the country, although it is closed to the public. At Burgherspost, however, visitors can embark on guided drives and explore the rich biodiversity firsthand.

During a guided game drive, guests can expect to encounter some of South Africa's iconic game and bird species, including gemsbok, bontebok, eland, red hartebeest, springbok, zebra, and numerous smaller mammals such as duiker, steenbok, porcupine, honey badger, Cape clawless otter, and yellow mongoose. The top predators on the reserve include caracal, the African wild cat, and the Cape fox. Additionally, the estate is home to healthy bird populations, including secretary birds, blue cranes, yellow-billed ducks, fish eagles, black harriers, jackal buzzards, bokmakieries, malachite sunbirds, Namaqua doves, Cape canaries, and at dusk, spotted eagle owls, barn owls, and fiery-necked nightjars.

At Cloof, visitors can indulge in a wine tasting experience featuring award-winning wines, accompanied by a delectable a-la-carte meal. The rates are per person sharing and include a wine tasting and a guided cellar tour. Cloof also provides a complimentary bottle or two of wine for guests to enjoy during their stay. Additionally, the rate includes a two-hour game drive through the private nature reserve led by the conservation manager.
