Camp Kwando is an eco-friendly lodge situated on the banks of the Kwando River in Namibia's Zambezi Region (formerly Caprivi). Operating for over 20 years, the establishment has built a reputation for sustainable practices, running on 95% solar energy and utilizing local sustainable resources.
The accommodation offers various lodging options including thirteen River Chalets built on poles with decks overlooking the river. These thatched-roof tents feature en-suite bathrooms with hot and cold water, and two beds equipped with mosquito nets. Additionally, four "Tree Houses" on stilts are positioned on higher ground, offering spectacular views over Botswana's flood plains. These larger thatched-roof chalets include private decks and are powered entirely by solar energy.
The lodge is situated in one of southern Africa's premier game viewing destinations, with the surrounding area comprising swamps, floodplains, wetlands, and woodland. The region is home to approximately 450 animal species, including lions, elephants, leopards, and buffalo. The climate is notably tropical, with high temperatures and significant rainfall during the December-to-March wet season, making it Namibia's wettest region.
Activities available to guests include specialized bird watching cruises, game drives to Mudumu Game Park and Bwabwata National Park, and boat drives along the river. The lodge features a restaurant, swimming pool, and an overhead deck perfect for sundowners while enjoying the calls of the African fish eagle.
The property is strategically located within driving distance of several notable destinations including Windhoek, Rundu, and Victoria Falls, and provides access to multiple national parks including Mudumu, Bwabwata, and Nkasa Rupara. Visitors should note that accessing certain areas requires a 4x4 vehicle with good ground clearance.
