De Damhuis

De Damhuis is a self-catering accommodation situated approximately an hour's drive from Pretoria and 29 km from Bela-Bela. It offers a unique getaway experience for nature lovers and eco-conscious travelers. The unit consists of two bedrooms, one shared bathroom, a fully-equipped open-plan kitchen, and a dining area.

The braai (barbecue) area is shaded by large Acacia trees and overlooks a dam, providing a picturesque setting for outdoor dining and relaxation after exploring the bush trails. Visitors may spot various antelope species, such as kudu, duiker, and steenbok, as well as wild boars and bush pigs roaming freely within the unfenced camp.

De Damhuis prides itself on being an environmentally-friendly retreat, powered by its own solar panels for electricity and utilizing gas for cooking and heating water. Activities available at the property include fishing for carp, barbell, and kurper in the dam, bird watching, canoeing, stargazing around the bonfire pit, and al fresco dining on the large stoep (patio).

Guests are advised to inform the property in advance if they require a camping cot or baby bath. Swimming in the dam is permitted, but diving is not recommended for safety reasons. As De Damhuis is located on a farm, guests are cautioned that the road conditions may be affected by rain, and assistance is available if their vehicle gets stuck.

The unit is provided with basic amenities such as braai wood for two nights, 1 liter of milk, coffee, sugar, tea, toilet paper, dishwashing liquid, and cloths. Additional wood can be purchased for an additional fee. The unit is serviced prior to arrival and on the third day of the stay. Additional cleaning or linen changes can be arranged for an extra fee.

Bela-Bela is located 29 km away from De Damhuis, offering numerous activities and restaurants for guests to explore. The two-bedroom unit at De Damhuis features one queen-size bed and two single beds, with both bedrooms en-suite to one bathroom with a shower. All bedding and bath towels are provided, making it a private and romantic retreat away from the busy tourist areas.
