Desert Dew Guesthouse is located on Modderfontein farm, a traditional Karoo property featuring historical structures dating back approximately 150 years. The property showcases Khoi San Bushmen drawings and sits at an elevation of 1300 meters above sea level, marking the highest point between Cape Town and Johannesburg at Horseshoe mountain. Despite being in a semi-desert region, the farm benefits from six natural springs providing high-quality drinking water.
The main guesthouse features six well-appointed rooms, each equipped with modern amenities including air-conditioning, television with DStv, and tea and coffee making facilities. The rooms vary in size and style, from the sophisticated Mohair room with its panoramic views to the family-friendly Elephant room. Some rooms offer unique features such as private patios and distinctive decorative elements including mohair rugs and Nguni hide furnishings.
A recent expansion has added the "Vellewaenhuis" (The Shed), which comprises three modern self-catering chalets. These units are designed for family stays, featuring two bedrooms each, open-plan kitchen and lounge areas, and dedicated braai facilities. The chalets can accommodate between four to five guests depending on the unit.
The working farm, home to sheep, angora, and cattle, offers various activities for guests including hiking, 4x4 trails, mountain biking, quad biking, donkey cart riding, and birdwatching. The guesthouse serves as an ideal halfway stop between Cape Town and Gauteng, providing a peaceful retreat from city life. Guests have access to laundry and cleaning services, and all accommodations are furnished with homemade rusks alongside standard amenities.
