Drakenzicht

Drakenzicht mountain cottage is a self-catering accommodation situated on a 50-acre farm at the foot of the uKhahlamba - Drakensberg Mountains, a World Heritage Site in the Central Drakensberg region of South Africa. The cottage has been located on the property for over five decades.

The accommodation at Drakenzicht has a modest country atmosphere and is in close proximity to nearby attractions such as Champagne Sports Resort, Drakensberg Sun Hotel, and Champagne Castle Hotel. The property features over 3 kilometers of cleared hiking trails through meadows, with benches overlooking a gorge and valley below, offering views of Giants Castle, Injasuthi, Champagne Castle, and Cleft Peak. The garden is lush with abundant bird life, and visitors may encounter vervet monkeys, birds of prey, bushbuck, and even the endangered ground hornbill during their stay.

Drakenzicht cottage has three double bedrooms (two with double beds and one with two single beds) and a fourth outside room with two bunk beds. One of the double rooms has a sleeper couch for additional sleeping space. The main bedroom has an en-suite bathroom that has been newly fitted, and the cottage's central bathroom was recently refurbished as well.

The farmhouse kitchen is equipped with necessary self-catering amenities, including a stove/oven, microwave, fridge/freezer, cutlery, crockery, cooking utensils, and an automatic washing machine. The open-plan lounge and dining area has a TV and satellite dish with DSTv activated upon request. The cottage's star feature is the lovely covered verandah, which serves as an entertainment area with a generous wooden table seating ten and an equally generous view of the mountainous horizon. An open braai facility on the outskirt of the elevated property shares this sweeping panorama.

Drakenzicht self-catering retreat is located 27 kilometers from Winterton on the well-maintained R600 tarred road and approximately 2 kilometers from Champagne Sports Resort. The house is perfectly positioned to explore the numerous hiking and mountain bike routes of the Central Drakensberg, as well as its various golf courses and horse riding opportunities.
