Driftwood Studios

Driftwood Studios is a property located in the grounds of Driftwood Sculpture Studios, facing the Kwelera Coastal Nature Reserve. It features two hand-built cottages equipped to a high standard, with a secluded beach within a short walking distance. The cottages are situated in a setting where children can explore the grounds, observe vervet monkeys, feed chickens, and interact with two resident monkeys, Angus and Anna. However, dogs are not allowed due to the absence of fences separating the property from the Kwelera Nature Reserve.

The first cottage, Driftwood Cottage, is a unique thatched tree house furnished with a queen-size bed and a single bed that can be made up upon request. For family accommodations, two comfy fold-down beds for children can be added. The cottage features an upstairs bathroom with a bathtub and toilet, as well as a deck off the first-floor bedroom in the trees. Guests can enjoy an outdoor shower amidst tall flowering ginger plants. The cottage is equipped with a fully-equipped kitchen and dining area downstairs, an outdoor leafy courtyard for self-catering, and a braai area for stargazing or an adjacent covered braai by the kitchen.

The second cottage, Raku Cottage, also known as The Forest House, has two en-suite double rooms, Raku and Strandloper. The Raku room additionally has a single bed, and there is a single day bed in the lounge area. The cottage includes a lounge, dining area, and kitchen with a wood-burning fireplace, concrete worktops, and a gas hob/electric oven. It is a private cottage tucked away in the indigenous forest, accessible by a short paved path from the off-street parking area.

Driftwood Studios offers a delightful experience for birdwatchers, anglers, surfers, and safe, fun activities for children. It is also an ideal location for artists or writers seeking a retreat. The nearby beach, which is part of the Standloper Trail, features rock pools, shells, and driftwood. Private parking areas and paths lead to each cottage, and Claire, the host, is available to ensure a memorable and enjoyable stay.

Guests can take a five-minute walk on a quiet gravel road or a winding forest path to reach a great fishing and surf spot. Driftwood Cottage, the thatched tree house, offers a queen-size bed, an extra-length single bed, a bathtub in the bedroom with forest views, an en-suite toilet, and a beach shower. It also includes a fully equipped kitchen, an undercover braai area, a lounge area, and a braai area for stargazing in the garden. Guests have access to a communal pool and can book an adventure nature safari for R175 per person for approximately 2 hours, providing an entertaining way to learn about the seashore.
