Dwarsvlei Guest House is a unique Karoo farm with an enchanting homestead, recently upgraded camping and function facilities, and a fascinating history. It is situated on an old British farm house on a beautiful farm just outside Middelburg on the N9 in the Eastern Cape. The remote paradise used to be a thriving horse stud farm and is now used for sheep farming.

The colonial charm of the house and its setting is an experience in itself. The house features beautiful high ceilings with old British architecture surrounded by an exquisite garden hidden away in a secret poplar forest. It offers a tranquil escape from the hustle of city life, where visitors can enjoy the sounds of birds singing.

Dwarsvlei, as it was originally called, was established around the middle of the 19th Century. The first homestead, with some original reed ceilings, still stands next to the current homestead. There is an old wagon track believed to be the earliest road from Graaff Reinet, passing through the vlei (wetland), where a rock with etched names marks the site of an outspan point (resting place for travelers).

One of the guest rooms features a double bed and two to three single beds as required. It offers a beautiful view over the front garden and pool. The upstairs bedrooms share one bathroom with a toilet and bath, while a shower is available downstairs.
