Etusis Lodge

Etusis Lodge is a distinctive wilderness retreat situated in the Erongo region of Namibia, approximately 35 kilometers south of Karibib on the C32 road. The property encompasses an impressive 22,000 hectares of unspoiled African wilderness, nestled among the marble mountains at an altitude of approximately 1,200 meters.

Founded in 1993 by Volker and Susanne Ledermann, the lodge was established with a vision to preserve a piece of authentic Africa. The property operates as a nature and wildlife reserve without traditional game fences, allowing free movement of wildlife including zebras, antelopes, and leopards. The lodge embraces a gentle tourism concept where humans are considered guests in nature's domain.

The accommodation offerings range from thatched bungalows and luxury tents to a self-catering farmhouse. A separate campsite is located 20 kilometers from the main lodge. The property features notable landmarks including the Etusis marble mountains, the Otjipatera massif, the Etusis waterfall, and plains. The name "Etusis" translates to "the place where one can dive deep," referring to the deep pool at the waterfall.

Guests can experience the wilderness through various activities including guided game drives, horseback riding (available for all skill levels), hiking, and photography. The lodge maintains a breeding program for Basotho horses and is actively involved in conservation efforts, particularly for the endangered Hartmann's Mountain Zebra. Additional amenities include a swimming pool, Wi-Fi, and a private airstrip.

The lodge has consistently received recognition for its hospitality, earning Gold Awards from the Hospitality Association of Namibia (HAN) almost annually since 2000. Its location between Windhoek and Swakopmund makes it an ideal stopping point for travelers, offering both adventure and relaxation in a pristine natural setting.
