The Fish Eagle Log Cabin is a four-room, eight-sleeper self-catering accommodation situated on the banks of the Vaal River in the Vredefort Dome World Heritage area. The Vredefort Dome is recognized globally as one of the nine World Heritage Sites in South Africa, where the largest meteorite struck the Earth to form a crater approximately 300 km in diameter around 2 billion years ago.

The cabin is located on the banks of the Vaal River, making fishing a popular activity in the area. It offers a peaceful and serene environment with no passing traffic or noise, except for the sound of the river flowing over the rocks or the distinctive cry of the fish eagle. The Vredefort Dome area also provides excellent opportunities for stargazing.

An interesting aspect of the cabin is that it was built around a dual stone fireplace that serves both the lounge and the main bedroom. There are two bedrooms with double beds, and one room has an en-suite bathroom. Additionally, there are two private sleeping areas with twin beds located upstairs.

The cabin is situated in a completely eco-friendly environment, with minimal disruption to the surroundings and sustainable power generated through solar and gas sources. There are no ESKOM poles or cables on the property. Lighting in the unit consists of 12-volt solar-powered LED globes strategically placed for sufficiency while maintaining a rustic ambiance. Gas fuels the geyser, fridge, and stove.

The rates for the cabin are subject to the number of guests staying, and guests are advised to request the appropriate tariffs. Located in the bush and essentially on the water, away from any traffic, noise, and other people, the cabin provides a romantic venue where couples can immerse themselves in nature and enjoy cozy winter evenings in front of the fireplace.

With its location in the bush and on the banks of the Vaal River, the cabin is an ideal getaway for families. Activities such as walking, fishing, or simply relaxing on the deck or in front of the fireplace promote family bonding. The cabin consists of four rooms: three twin rooms with two single beds each and one king room with a private bathroom en-suite. There is also space for two children to sleep on a sleeper couch in the living room. Cell phone reception is available for Vodacom and Telkom networks.
