Forest Cottage

Forest Cottage is a cozy, rustic wooden cottage situated 500 meters away from the main lodge area of Forest Creek Lodge, located within a gorge of the Steinkampburg Mountains. It is located next to an indigenous forest and is completely private, within earshot of a stream, offering stunning views of the mountains.

The cottage features a fireplace in the lounge (firewood is supplied) and is fully equipped for self-catering. It comprises one queen-size bedroom with an en-suite bathroom and toilet, a second smaller bedroom with a single bed, and a double sleeper couch in the lounge. The open-plan bathroom design with candles and bubbles makes the cottage suitable for couples seeking a romantic hideaway or couples with small children.

The cottage offers excellent bird-watching opportunities, with the potential to spot rare species such as the Knysna loorie, Cinnamon dove, Grey cuckoo shrike, Blue mantled flycatcher, Black eagle, and the Narina trogon. A tree house constructed in the ravine forest provides an ideal spot for bird-watching and picnics, offering superb views of the forest canopy and gorge. The malaria-free habitat also allows tree enthusiasts to identify uncommon species of trees, shrubs, orchids, and ferns.

Additional activities available at Forest Creek Lodge include a bush bath, hiking marked trails through the forest ending at a waterfall (with the option of a hiker's picnic), and clay pigeon shooting. The lodge is situated 130 km from the Kruger National Park, making it an ideal place for international travelers to relax and unwind after a long flight. The last 4 kilometers of the dirt road require a high-clearance vehicle, but the lodge can collect guests at the bottom of the hill and provide a safe place for their vehicle.

While the Forest Cottage is not graded as a 4-star accommodation due to its rustic nature and location 500 meters from the main lodge, guests can book meals, activities, and access the Forest Spa at the main lodge.
