Gorah Elephant Camp

Gorah Elephant Camp is an exclusive 5-star safari lodge situated within the Addo Elephant National Park in South Africa's Eastern Cape. As the first private concession ever awarded in a South African National Park, this luxurious establishment combines colonial elegance with modern sophistication in a malaria-free setting.

The property centers around a historic manor house, built in 1856 and now a National Monument, which has been meticulously restored to reflect its original grandeur. The main house features elegant period furnishings, welcoming lounges with original fireplaces, and a library offering reference materials about the region. A veranda overlooks a wildlife-frequented waterhole, while a swimming pool and various sun decks provide leisure spaces for guests.

The accommodation comprises 11 luxury tented suites, each sheltered under thatched canopies and designed to evoke the romantic safari atmosphere of the early 1900s. These spacious units feature private furnished balconies, en-suite bathrooms, and modern amenities including safes and phones.

Located near the Zuurberg Mountain range in the Sunday's River Valley, the camp sits within a 14,000-hectare fenced park that was established in 1931 to protect the region's elephant population. Today, the area boasts the highest density of elephants on earth and is home to all of the Big 5 (lion, elephant, leopard, rhino, and buffalo), along with numerous other species including cheetah, hyena, and various antelope. The park is also a haven for bird enthusiasts, with 320 recorded species.
