Griffons Bush Camp is located in a mountainous amphitheater, at the highest point in the Waterberg region. It is situated on its own exclusive and private property within Marakele National Park, offering gigantic views that stretch forever. The camp is located near the largest Cape Griffon colony in the world, which inhabits the cliffs above the camp.

The camp is set in a fig and acacia forest on the slopes of the mountain, covering an area of over 1000 hectares of Waterberg bushveld. Visitors can enjoy various guided nature trails, ranging from steep and demanding to leisurely and relaxing. Griffons Bush Camp lies within Marakele National Park, which hosts Africa's Big 5 game species. The lodge offers game walks, trails, and self-drive or guided game drives in their sector, with the latter undertaken using four-wheel drive game viewing vehicles.

For bird enthusiasts, the camp provides an opportunity to view the Cape Griffon colony, consisting of hundreds of breeding pairs, and their unique behavior. The area is also home to numerous special bird species, including Gurney's Sugar-bird, Orange-breasted Bush shrikes, White Helmet shrikes, flapper larks, and breeding pairs of Verreaux's eagles. Predator sightings include lion, leopard, civet, genet, caracal, brown hyena, buffalo, and black-backed jackal. Other wildlife that can be spotted at Marakele Lodge includes zebra, wildebeest, mountain reedbuck, bushbuck, impala, klipspringer, bush pig, baboon, monkey, common duiker, and numerous other small animals.

The camp offers rustic accommodation in chalets made of local stone and thatch, each with its own ablutions and coffee station, as well as a communal kitchen with all facilities. It has solar energy and natural spring water from the mountain streams. When the water flow is sufficient or after rainfall, a cement and stone splash pool is filled for guests to relax in the midst of the forest camp. As the camp is located within the boundaries of a national park, there is a chance of encountering wild animals even en route to the camp. A high clearance vehicle is recommended for accessing the camp, although a 4x4 is not strictly necessary.
