Haggards Hilldrop B & B

Haggards Hilldrop B & B is an establishment situated at the foothill of the Hilldrop Rocky Range in Newcastle, South Africa. It is the original farmhouse of Sir Rider Haggard, the author of "King Solomon's Mines", and was built in 1875. The establishment has been operating as a bed and breakfast since July 29, 1995, catering primarily to corporate and holiday visitors.

Newcastle is a town rich in industrial diversity and attracts mostly corporate clientele. Haggards Hilldrop B & B is ideally located between Gauteng, Durban, the Kruger National Park, and the Drakensberg. The rooms at the bed and breakfast are inviting, featuring crisp poly-percale linen and rich colors from Persian and Kelim carpets. Each bedroom opens onto a patio or balcony with garden or forest views.

The 3-hectare indigenous forest on the property hosts a variety of birdlife and surrounds the honesty bar and swimming pool. A braai lapa is available for private use and is a favorite meeting place.
