Halliwell Country Inn

Halliwell Country Inn, established in 1838, is a historic boutique hotel nestled in the KwaZulu Natal Midlands of South Africa. Originally constructed as a fortified wagon stopover, the property features distinctive one-meter-thick walls and high ceilings that preserve its historical character while offering modern amenities.

The inn comprises 14 spacious rooms, each uniquely decorated and equipped with open fireplaces, en-suite bathrooms with heated towel rails, Open View HD TV, tea and coffee facilities, and private patios overlooking the Karkloof Valley. Room configurations include options with king-size beds or combinations of double and single beds to accommodate two to four guests.

Set on 250 acres of land, the property features extensive botanical gardens, forests, and abundant birdlife. The establishment is home to the Lemon and Lavender restaurant, which opened in 1991 and is led by head chef Riaan Van Der Walt and Sous Chef Pretty Mpangase, focusing on fresh, local ingredients from the Midlands and Curry's Post area.

The venue serves as a premier wedding and conference destination, with the Halliwell Hall accommodating up to 250 guests, and the converted "Smithy" chapel seating 120 people. Conference facilities can host between 4 and 80 delegates. The property shares boundaries with the Halliwell Rest Home for Horses, providing guests with views of horses grazing in the pastures.

Located near Curry's Post/Howick, the inn is easily accessible from the N3 highway, situated approximately 4.5 hours from Johannesburg and 30 minutes from Durban at an altitude of 1300 meters. The surrounding Midlands area offers various attractions, including art galleries, restaurants, and craft shops, while the property itself is known for its misty valleys, clear spring water, and romantic atmosphere.
