Highbourne Cottages

Highbourne Cottages, situated in the Champagne Valley within the Drakensberg World Heritage Site, offers a unique mountain retreat experience between Champagne Castle Hotel and the Monks Cowl entrance. The property, with its first cottage built in 1941, is recognized by UNESCO for its proximity to significant San rock art and unique fauna and flora.

The eco-friendly, off-grid establishment features two self-catering cottages - Aloe and Protea - each accommodating up to four guests. Both cottages are powered by solar energy and source their water from a mountain spring, offering modern comforts while maintaining environmental consciousness.

Aloe Cottage features an open-plan design with large windows overlooking Cathkin Peak and Monks Cowl. It includes a ground-floor bedroom, an upstairs loft with two single beds, a bathroom with an outdoor shower, and a fully equipped kitchen. The living area includes a slow combustion fireplace and opens to an outdoor braai and dining area.

Protea Cottage, positioned on the mountainside, offers a studio-style layout with a large wooden deck. It mirrors Aloe Cottage's sleeping capacity and amenities but features a combined bath and shower in its bathroom. Both cottages provide fully equipped kitchens and comfortable living spaces with fireplaces.

The property offers direct access to numerous hiking trails within the World Heritage site and is centrally located near local shops, restaurants, and outdoor activities. The area provides various recreational opportunities, including archery, zip-lining, helicopter flights, horse riding, and visits to the Drakensberg Boys Choir.
