$347
Per person for 1 night

The Historic Constantia Wine Valley Tour provides an opportunity for individuals to step back in time and visit the oldest wine-producing region in the Southern Hemisphere, where they can taste some of the most famous wines ever produced in South Africa, enjoyed by royalty in the 18th century as well as the likes of Napoleon Bonaparte.

The tour begins at Groot Constantia, where a man's love of wine established the first wine farm in South Africa, dating back 330 years. The estate, which is the largest in the region, is home to Van der Stel's (the first Governor of the new Dutch colony at the tip of Africa) original manor house, and the museum is an excellent example of Cape Dutch architectural style. Visitors can take a guided tour through the cellar and learn more about the rich history while enjoying a chocolate and award-winning wine pairing.

The Constantia Valley was the cradle of quality winemaking in South Africa, and the name Constantia is linked with the most famous wines ever produced in the country, enjoyed by Napoleon Bonaparte and royalty in the 18th century. The tour includes a visit to a wine estate that originally formed part of the Constantia Estate.

Eagles' Nest, cradled in a secluded valley on the slopes of the Constantia mountain range and forming part of the World Heritage Site of Table Mountain, is also part of the tour. The farm's origins date back to when it was used as a refreshment station between the area now known as Wynberg in the east and the harbor of Hout Bay in the west. Visitors can enjoy a leisurely afternoon of sipping wine under tall trees, enjoying the relaxing sound of a babbling brook.

For the final stop, the tour heads up the mountainside to one of the highest tasting rooms in the Constantia Valley, offering a view across the bay all the way to the beginning of the Helderberg mountain range.
