The name 'Ingwenya Lodge' derives from the Zulu word for crocodile. It was chosen as an indigenous name to Zululand, where the lodge is situated on the outskirts of the residential area bordering the nature reserve in the first World Heritage Site of South Africa. The surroundings are peaceful, and hippos often graze at the entrance of the lodge during the night.

The self-catering units at Ingwenya Lodge are named after the five rivers of the St Lucia Estuary. The lodge offers facilities including a swimming pool, air-conditioning in all rooms, Wi-Fi Internet, additional freezing facilities, DStv decoders, safes, and a hiking trail that starts from the premises. The units are serviced daily.

The lodge features a huge tree house, a trampoline, a ground unit non-sea-view with a large private boma that can accommodate six people (2 bedrooms, 1 queen-size double bed, 2 single beds, 1 sleeper couch, 1 complete bathroom). Guests are advised to bring their own card and decoder for full DSTV access.
