Jack Of The Karoo is a distinguished self-catering accommodation establishment located in the heart of Sutherland, Northern Cape, South Africa. The property features three distinct houses: Jack, Die Prokureurshuis, and Raka, each offering unique characteristics and charm.
Jack is a beautifully renovated Victorian house that maintains its historical character while providing modern comfort. The property is distinguished by a large willow tree and features a traditional stoep (veranda) where guests can enjoy the fresh Karoo air. It accommodates up to six guests in three spacious bedrooms, with one en-suite, and includes a fully equipped kitchen, lounge, dining room, and indoor braai facility.
Die Prokureurshuis, dating back to 1937, holds historical significance as it shares a connection with renowned poets NP van Wyk Louw and his brother WEG Louw. This traditional Karoo-style house exemplifies local architecture, constructed with indigenous materials including sandstone and handmade bricks finished with breathable mud plaster. It can accommodate eight guests across four bedrooms, making it ideal for larger groups or families.
Raka, the newest addition, is a recently renovated Karoo cottage centrally located in Sutherland. It features two double rooms with percale linen, a family bathroom, and spacious covered stoeps at both the front and back of the house. The property can accommodate up to four guests.
Sutherland is renowned for its cold, snowy winters and exceptional stargazing opportunities, offering visitors an authentic Karoo experience away from city life. The town's unique climate and clear night skies make it a compelling destination for travelers seeking both natural beauty and astronomical interests.
