Kaapsehoop Horse Trails

Kaapsehoop Horse Trails is a well-known and peaceful retreat situated on the Drakensberg escarpment, approximately 35 kilometers from Nelspruit. It offers horse riding, self-catering accommodation, educational equine programs, volunteer experiences, and more. The farm-style self-catering accommodation provides a reviving getaway in the countryside, with fully equipped houses for basic needs and barbecue facilities. Firewood is supplied, but visitors are recommended to bring charcoal.

It is important to note that Kaapsehoop has an altitude of 1600 meters, with temperatures up to 10 degrees Celsius cooler than Nelspruit, so visitors are advised to bring warm clothing. With over 30 years of trail-riding experience, the host, Christo, follows the principles of natural horsemanship. Visitors can enjoy comfortable and safe horse riding, whether beginners or experienced riders, on well-trained cross-bred horses, with a choice of English or Western-style saddles.

As part of the educational program, Kaapsehoop Horse Trails offers an exciting five-day pony camp for children during school holidays, providing an alternative way of learning through tailor-made packages. It is also a unique venue for small weddings, functions, and corporate events. The guest house, built in 1937, was one of the first houses on the Berlin Plantation. Its creaking wooden floors, imbued with the building's history, continually draw back visitors who have experienced its unique and welcoming ambiance. The guest house comfortably accommodates six guests in three bedrooms and one bathroom, with a fully equipped kitchen, a lounge area with a fireplace, and a sunny veranda with braai facilities.
