Karkloof Rocky Lodge is located in the forested, evergreen foothills of the Gilboa Mountains. It offers a self-catering, free-standing cottage consisting of three bedrooms. One bedroom has a double bed, while the other two bedrooms have two single beds each. These bedrooms share the use of a bathroom with a bath and a shower. Linen, towels, and toilet paper are supplied.

The kitchen is equipped with an electric stove, a kettle, a toaster, a microwave, pots, pans, cutlery, and crockery. Guests can enjoy their meals at the dining table. The comfortably furnished lounge is equipped with a cozy fireplace and opens out onto a wooden deck with fabulous views of the Gilboa Mountains. Wood is provided, but the unit does not have a TV, Internet, or telephone. A cleaning service is available upon request.

Guests can visit the Karkloof Conservation Centre down the road for birdwatching. Various activities are available in the area, such as the Karkloof Canopy Tours, an annual tube race down the Karkloof River, and visiting the Karkloof Falls, a great place for picnics and swimming in the river. The Umngeni Nature Reserve offers rock climbing, hiking, picnics, and game viewing. The Natal Midlands is a historical site with its Anglo-Boer war history, battlefields, and a museum in Howick.
