Kashana is a historic property located in Erongo, Namibia, with a rich heritage dating back to 1907 when it was originally built as a casino for mine workers. The name "Kashana" is believed to derive from the Owambo language, referring to the surrounding bush savannah's resemblance to a wide open plain.
Following years of deterioration, the building underwent extensive restoration work to preserve its German Colonial architecture and heritage, reopening in 2007. The restored building now serves as the centerpiece of a lodge-style guesthouse, featuring a distinctive bar and a popular à la carte restaurant. The establishment's garden courtyard provides a peaceful setting enjoyed by residents, travelers, and locals alike.
The property includes a vibrant commercial courtyard housing various small businesses, including a florist, hairdresser, and the Nawa-Nawa Art Center, which serves both guests and the local community. Recent developments have expanded the facility to include new guest accommodations along the river frontage, as well as modern amenities such as a swimming pool, terrace, and lapa. The complex continues to undergo discrete expansions to enhance its facilities and services.
