Kayova River Lodge is a community-based establishment located in Namibia's Kavango region along the Angola border, officially opened in 2012. The lodge is strategically positioned on a slope overlooking the Okavango (Cubango) River, the largest waterway between the two countries, which supports a diverse ecosystem of birds, fish, hippos, and crocodiles.
The accommodation consists of thatched chalets and Meru safari tents, all featuring modern amenities including air conditioning, en-suite bathrooms, telephones, international power sockets, and tea/coffee stations. The chalets offer queen-size or twin beds with mosquito nets, writing desks, and glass sliding doors opening onto furnished decks. The spacious Meru tents provide garden river views and are fully insect-proof, with furnished patios for guests to enjoy the surroundings.
The lodge's facilities include two swimming pools with deck areas, a bar, and a restaurant serving both local and international cuisine. A large lawned area with shady trees overlooks the river, and Wi-Fi is available in the main area. Daily housekeeping services are provided, with laundry available as an additional service.
Activities offered include bird watching, fishing, boat cruises, sundowner events, and village visits. The lodge also caters to families with amenities such as baby cots, high chairs, and changing stations, plus the option for inter-leading family units. Day trips to Mahango National Park can be arranged, and the venue is suitable for small conferences and weddings.
As a 100% community-based initiative, all profits from Kayova River Lodge directly benefit the local Kavango community, making it not just a luxury destination but also a sustainable tourism venture that supports local development.
