Khotso Lodge and Horse Trails, whose name means "peace," is a well-established 1,300-hectare working horse and sheep farm situated at the foot of the Drakensberg mountain range in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. Located just minutes from the famous Sani Pass, this World Heritage Site destination has been offering horse riding experiences in the Southern Drakensberg for over a decade.
Founded and managed by adventurer Steve Black, Khotso has grown to become the largest horse trails specialist in the region. The establishment is particularly notable for being the only operator offering regular and custom multi-day cross-border horseback expeditions into Lesotho's wilderness.
The property offers diverse accommodation options to suit various preferences, including a rustic lodge, self-catering rondawels, a campsite, and a hand-built log cabin. The Backpackers Lodge features single bunk beds with shared facilities including showers, toilets, kitchen, lounge, and braai areas. All accommodation options are thoughtfully spread out to ensure guest privacy.
Beyond horse riding, visitors can engage in numerous outdoor activities including guided hikes, mountain biking, canoeing, rafting, swimming, and fishing. The lodge maintains a relaxed, welcoming atmosphere and serves as an ideal basecamp for both adventure seekers and those looking to unwind in the majestic Drakensberg scenery.
