Kingston Farm, located outside Bathurst in South Africa's Eastern Cape, is a historic property dating back to 1828, with its main Edwardian villa constructed in 1906. The establishment was acquired by Fred and Carla Bright in 2006 and has since been transformed into a multifaceted hospitality venue.
The property operates as a restaurant, guesthouse, and culinary destination. The restaurant, which opened in 2007 and has been featured in Eat Out magazine's Top 500 restaurants, serves classic country cuisine with a set menu that changes weekly. Sunday lunches are available by reservation only, with vegetarian and vegan options available upon request.
The accommodation consists of three en-suite apartments within the main house, featuring fully equipped kitchens and elegant decor. One apartment can accommodate four guests, while two units are suitable for two adults each. The farm operates entirely on solar power to ensure uninterrupted service.
Kingston Farm has expanded its offerings to include an online store featuring local speciality foods, some of which are prepared by Carla for use in the restaurant and guesthouse. The establishment also hosts monthly culinary workshops and is developing specialized weekend chef's tours of the area.
The farm's philosophy centers on celebrating local food and maintaining high service standards. It serves as a cultural hub where food enthusiasts can gather to learn about and experience the region's terroir while enjoying the tranquility of the countryside. The property continues to honor its heritage while embracing innovation in the culinary arts.
