Laanhof is a historic property situated at 26 Die Laan in central Stellenbosch, Western Cape, South Africa. The property consists of a Victorian House and four separate apartments, offering various accommodation options for visitors.
The Victorian House features three bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms and can be reserved either as a complete unit or as individual rooms with shared common areas including a lounge, dining room, and kitchen. The property also comprises four self-catering apartments: three units accommodating two people each, and one larger unit suitable for four guests. All accommodations are serviced Monday through Friday, excluding public holidays.
The property's rich history dates back to 1781, when Die Laan originated as a track connecting the old Stellenbosch Drostdy to the Jonkershoek farm road. The land where Laanhof stands was originally known as "Koloniestuin" and served as farmland for the magistrate's animals in the 1780s. The current Victorian house is part of the historic Beyers houses, built by Jan Marthinus Beyers in the late 19th century during a housing shortage in Stellenbosch.
Through the years, the property has changed hands several times, from the Beyers family to Willem Broadhurst in 1919, then to Eben Daneel in 1939, followed by Maggie Beyers, and later the Marais family. The current owners acquired the property from the Aletta Marais estate in 2014.
Located in a prime position, Laanhof offers easy access to Stellenbosch's attractions, including renowned restaurants, wine farms, the university campus, and outdoor recreational areas such as Coetzenburg mountain and Jonkershoek Nature Reserve. The historic town center is just 800 meters away, making it an ideal base for exploring the region's cultural and natural attractions.
