Lake Eland Game Reserve, established in 2003 by brothers Eric and Trevor Dunstone, is a magnificent 2500-hectare conservation area located in Oribi Gorge, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. The reserve derives its name from a large eland-shaped lake, paying homage to the antelope's significance in San bushman paintings.
The reserve encompasses diverse ecosystems including bushveld, grassland, coastal forest, and wetland, providing a peaceful sanctuary for various wildlife species. Visitors can explore the reserve through self-guided game drives, an 80-meter suspension bridge, and numerous activities including a zipline tour, horse riding, hiking, mountain biking, paintball, fishing, and 4x4 tracks.
Accommodation options include various self-catering chalets, ranging from intimate two-sleeper units to family-sized five and six-sleeper options. All chalets feature en-suite bathrooms, fully equipped kitchens, private decks, and braai areas. The two-sleeper options offer either bush or dam views, while larger units include additional bedrooms and lounges with fireplaces.
The reserve features a fully licensed restaurant adjacent to a children's playground, making it ideal for day visitors. Operating hours are from 7 AM to 5 PM daily, with the restaurant serving from 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM. Zipline and scooter activities run until 3 PM for the last tour. The facility serves as an excellent venue for family holidays, team building exercises, and romantic getaways.
