Little Carthage

The property known as 'Little Carthage' is a rustic and affordable bushcamp situated on the banks of the Olifants river. It caters to individuals who appreciate the simpler things in life, offering comfortable accommodation in a scenic location at an affordable price. The establishment aims to provide a tranquil and serene environment for guests to unwind and immerse themselves in nature.

The accommodation comprises two modest chalets: a four-sleeper unit and a two-sleeper unit, which are only available for booking as a single unit, ensuring privacy and exclusive use of the outdoor kitchen, pool, and braai facilities. The owner and their family reside on the property but in a separate area from the guest accommodations.

The property is located deep in the bush, accessible via a 12-kilometer dirt road. While a 4x4 vehicle is not strictly necessary, low-clearance vehicles may encounter difficulties. A conservation levy of R150 per vehicle is applicable, valid for a seven-day period.

Little Carthage is characterized as an ideal getaway for nature enthusiasts, but guests should be prepared for the bush environment. The presence of geckos, lizards, spiders, occasional snakes, monkeys, and baboons is expected, and the establishment practices a policy of not harming these creatures, with the exception of mosquitoes and flies.

Situated within the 1000-hectare Ndlovumzi Nature Reserve, the property offers opportunities to spot various wildlife species, including giraffe, zebra, kudu, nyala, warthog, eland, waterbuck, and black-backed jackals. The Olifants River, home to crocodiles and hippos, runs through the reserve, and adventurous guests can explore the nearby island, potholes, and waterfalls.

The pool deck, located directly on the river, features a swimming pool, a braai area, and an eight-seater table under shade. The open kitchen is equipped with an eight-seater table under thatch, a full-size fridge-freezer, a gas oven and stove, a microwave, and necessary cutlery and crockery.
